Built in 1924, the Bank of Nova Scotia on Sparks Street has stood in downtown Ottawa for over a century.

Designed by John Lyle, one of Canada’s leading Beaux-Arts architects, it was built using brick and terra cotta supplied by Merkley’s Ottawa Brick and Terra Cotta.

Today, it remains a Federal Heritage Building of Canada. A reminder of how the right materials, placed with care, can carry a city’s story forward for generations.

Know this landmark from Parliament Hill? It’s the Justice Building — previous home to the Department of Justice and the RCMP.

In 1936, Merkley was contracted to supply all masonry materials for the build. And 90 years later, the Justice Building is still standing as a recognized Federal Heritage Building. 🇨🇦
