The #1 cause of underground pipe blockages in industrial facilities? Unchecked solids.

It’s a scenario every facility manager fears: high-volume washdowns push floor debris straight into the system, where it accumulates deep within underground piping.

The result? Massive plumbing blockages, costly hydro-jetting bills, and unplanned operational downtime.

The solution comes down to two simple elements:

- Proper Strainer Baskets: Equip your trench and floor drains with strainer baskets specifically sized for the solids your facility generates.
- Operational Discipline: Strainer baskets only work if they are kept in place and emptied on a strict, regular schedule.

A quick audit of your facility's drain strainers today can save thousands in underground pipe repairs tomorrow.

Standing water in an aging food facility is a multi-front risk to your operations.
When drain blockages hit production floors, the impact goes far beyond simple clean-up:

- Production Bottlenecks: Pooled water forces line shutdowns and disrupts daily output targets.
- Logistics & Safety Hazards: Standing water creates slippery floors that slow down forklift traffic and create workplace hazards.
- Sanitation Nightmares: Standing water is an immediate hygiene risk, creating prime harborages for bacteria right in the middle of food processing areas.

Upgrading legacy, failure-prone drainage infrastructure is one of the single most effective ways to protect throughput, keep floor traffic moving smoothly, and maintain strict hygienic standards.

Food facilities are facing unprecedented scrutiny when it comes to hygiene and safety standards. Every square inch of a processing floor is under the microscope and engineers are re-evaluating equipment from top to bottom.

While major processing machinery gets immediate attention, floor drains are one of the most critical systems in maintaining facility hygiene.
An outdated or poorly designed drain can quickly become a prime harborage point for bacteria like Listeria and Salmonella.

When specifying drainage systems for food and beverage facilities, keep these hygienic design principles top of mind:

- No-Niche Construction: Rounded corners and smooth welds prevent debris buildup and microbial growth.
- Corrosion-Resistant Materials: High-grade stainless steel (T304 or T316) withstands harsh chemical washdowns and thermal shocks.
- Self-Cleaning Profiles: Round or V-bottom drain geometries maintain water velocity to continually flush out solids.
- Accessible Components: Removable grates and strainer baskets allow for rapid, total-facility sanitization down to the microbial level.

Designing a safer, more compliant facility starts from the floor up.
