, St Ive, Cornwall

Last week we had the opportunity to take a deserved break from usual activities, to visit the story of Emily for our Christmas lunch. Our stone was used throughout the rejuvenation of this beautiful estate and we couldn’t be prouder to be a part of the amazing story.

The Story of Emily is a fresh, immersive historical experience. A tale of incredible bravery, determination and impact. It shines the light on an inspirational woman from Cornwall who challenged the social norms of the Victorian era and changed the lives of thousands of women and children during war. This is the story of Emily Hobhouse; a woman who travelled alone to South Africa while the second Anglo-Boer War raged to aid those in the concentration camps and was so committed to making a difference that she became a thorn in the side of the most powerful men of the time.

Our local rustic slate is similar in appearance to a South African rustic slate, which made it a great material choice to retain the story’s originality.

Visiting sites like the story of Emily fills us with immense pride. It was a chance to show the team how our hard work and dedication contributes towards bringing a vision to life, with the use of natural stone.

Bespoke Cornish granite is what we do…

Recently, we worked with on a project at South Quay Plaza in Canary Wharf, London. The task at hand was to create bespoke stepping stones at specified dimensions, but keeping a natural top which would be visible when installed.

Using our natural Cornish granite boulders from our own Caradon Quarry, we were able to select the right shape and size, without the need for excavation, keeping the environmental impact low.

The boulders were then cut to size on our wire saw and hand finished to round off sharp edges, making the stepping stones suitable for a public space.

Take a look at the process from selection to installation…

If you would like to discover more case studies and find out what else we’ve been creating, please send us a dm to request our new 2024 brochure.

Kendroya - Bodmin Moor, Cornwall

We’re thrilled to share a glimpse of our granite benches and Cornish hedging stone. Now part of Kedroya - a breathtaking public art installation nestled in the heart of Bodmin Moor at Colliford Lake.

This classical labyrinth was created to honor the rich heritage of Cornish stone hedges, and we couldn’t be prouder to contribute to this monument of Cornish history and nature.

Take a seat, enjoy the view, and connect with Cornwall’s treasured history.
