What's hidden above an existing ceiling matters before anyone starts taking it down.

Electrical services.
Pipework.
Ventilation.
Fire barriers.
Insulation.
Old redundant services.

And sometimes things nobody expected to find.

Refurbishment work needs more than simply measuring the visible ceiling from below.

Understanding the existing void helps determine how the work can be carried out safely and what might affect the new installation.

Another reason we're big believers in surveying first.

Acoustic treatment doesn't have to look like an afterthought.

Acoustic rafts can help reduce reverberation while also becoming part of the architectural design.

Different sizes, shapes, colours and layouts can be used depending on the space and required performance.

They're particularly effective in areas where a traditional wall to wall suspended ceiling isn't wanted.

Offices, schools, dining areas and communal spaces can all benefit.

Good acoustics can look good too.

A few millimetres can matter when setting out a ceiling.

Ceiling height affects far more than appearance.

Door heads.
Windows.
Lighting.
Ventilation.
Sprinklers.
Bulkheads.
Services within the void.

All potentially interact with the finished ceiling level.

That's why agreeing the level and checking what's above it before installation is so important.

Once every trade starts working to a different assumption, those few millimetres can become a much bigger problem.

Not every partition needs to be permanent.

Demountable partition systems can be a practical option for commercial spaces where layouts may need to change in the future.

They're particularly useful for creating offices, meeting rooms and other internal spaces while retaining greater flexibility than traditional construction.

Depending on the requirement, systems can incorporate solid panels, glazing and doors.

Worth considering when today's perfect office layout might not be tomorrow's.

Refurbishment gets more complicated when the building can't stop operating.

Offices still need to function.

Schools may have staff on site.

Retail spaces may need to remain open.

Other trades may be working alongside you.

That changes how the work needs to be planned.

Access, noise, dust, deliveries, working hours and daily clear downs can become just as important as the installation itself.

The actual ceiling or partition might be straightforward.

Delivering it around everyone else is often the real challenge.

Sometimes the ceiling doesn't need to cover the whole ceiling.

Acoustic baffles can be suspended vertically within a space to help control reverberation without installing a traditional suspended ceiling.

They're particularly useful where the design calls for an exposed soffit or where services are intended to remain visible.

They can also become a strong visual feature in their own right.

Acoustic performance and design don't have to compete with each other.

Need access above a plasterboard ceiling? Think about it before the ceiling is finished.

Valves, dampers, electrical equipment and other services may all require future maintenance.

That's where access panels come in.

Their size, location and type need coordinating with both the ceiling and the services above it.

Planning them early normally produces a much neater result than discovering after completion that somebody needs access to something hidden above the ceiling.

A small detail that can make a big difference later.

Want a more accurate ceiling or partition quotation?

The better the information we receive, the better the quotation we can provide.

Ideally, we're looking for:
Drawings showing the areas involved.
Ceiling heights.
Specifications or preferred products.
Details of existing ceilings on refurbishment projects.
Site access information.
Programme dates.
Any out of hours requirements.
And, where available, photographs of the existing space.

Not every project will have all of that information, particularly at an early stage.
That's fine.

But identifying the unknowns early means fewer assumptions and fewer surprises later.

A damaged ceiling tile doesn't always mean there's a problem with the ceiling.

Water leaks.
M&E works.
Access to services.
Impact damage.
Previous alterations.

There are plenty of reasons an existing ceiling might need attention.

Before replacing anything, it's worth understanding what caused the damage in the first place and identifying the existing ceiling system.

Sometimes a local repair is all that's needed.

Other times, the damage is telling you there's another problem that needs dealing with first.
