Paris’ zinc rooftops are part of the city’s identity. But recent heatwaves are revealing a new reality: the materials that shape our cities can also intensify the heat experienced within them.
Paris is already exploring green roofs, shading systems and reflective cool roofs to reduce surface and indoor temperatures. At one municipal school, a white roof coating was associated with an average indoor temperature reduction of 3°C (5.4°F).
This is where Solar Reflectance Index testing matters. SRI helps determine how effectively a surface reflects solar energy and releases absorbed heat, supporting more informed material decisions.
Because a material can look reflective without delivering the thermal performance a project needs.
