A STRONG cut-off low will affect South Africa from THURSDAY, bringing COLD conditions, WIDESPREAD RAIN, possible DISRUPTIVE RAINFALL and VERY STRONG WINDS.

🌧️From Thursday, scattered to widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected over the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, western Northern Cape and across the central parts of the country, including western North West and the Free State.

The heaviest rain on Thursday is expected over the Garden Route, parts of the Karoo and the Eastern Cape.

As the system shifts eastwards on Friday, rain will spread across all 9 provinces. The heaviest falls are then expected over parts of the Northern Cape and North West, while significant rainfall continues over eastern parts of the Eastern Cape. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also develop across KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Gauteng.

The weekend remains wet, with further heavy rainfall possible over parts of the Northern Cape, North West and Free State, while more rain and thunderstorms continue across Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.

⚠️Accumulated rainfall could approach 150 mm over parts of North West or the Northern Cape, depending on the exact track of the system. This could result in WIDESPREAD FLOODING in some areas.

🌬️ Winds will be particularly strong on THURSDAY and FRIDAY. Gusts of around 60–90 km/h are possible across parts of the Cape provinces and central interior, with gusts potentially exceeding 100 km/h over parts of the Northern Cape on Friday. Very strong winds are also expected along large stretches of the coast.

🟡 Yellow impact-based warnings for DAMAGING WINDS, DISRUPTIVE RAINFALL and SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS are already in place for parts of the country.
